In my life, I made a decision that I will never have an argument with anyone on topics that will drain my thoughts and waste my time. Those topics involve, religion, politics, and to some extent brainteasers. If I am confronted by such my response is, “Yes, you are correct – I see what you mean.” just to end an argument before it starts.
A Half-Full and Half-Empty Glass
It all depends on the side that you view the glass from, obviously if you start from the top of the glass you will see the emptiness of the glass until you reach the point where the substance starts your thoughts may change. Yet, again when you begin to the point where there is a substance in the glass you will start with a mind that there is something in the glass until you reach the end of the substance and see the empty part of the glass, your thoughts may not change. It does not mean that someone is wrong when they say, the glass is half-empty, and the latter motion is correct. It means you have different opinions.
An Opportunity Of Crossing Over
In different opinions opportunities are born. Differences allows us to build a bridge of understanding and learning other people’s views without judging them. Lack understanding leads to lack of knowledge and puts a barrier on what others think or know. Seeking understanding is giving yourself an opportunity to learn something new and expanding the knowledge on what you already know. Understanding therefore is the foundation of wisdom. Understanding that you don’t have to know everything for people to listen or hear you – to know that at times you need to listen even though you know so much about the subject. The bridge is therefore built when you have listened and interacted with the opposite side and they have also given you an ear to your thinking. Once understanding is found, strength and tenacity of the bridge to crossover remains nothing is taken away from each side but compliment is gained.
Benefits of the Opposites.
Trust is earned – People will trust you based on little things that you do than what you do not do. Trust is in the same family of respect, humility, and patience – these are true values. You don’t have to work hard to prove that you are worthy of trust – just focus of these values and be authentic.
Listen and Silent – Two words that have same letters and they compliment each other. There is a difference between hearing and listening – intention. When you listen there is interest in what the other person is saying and keeping silent is conceived during this period – that gives birth to empathy which is understanding with intention.
Knowledge is Gold – When two people are discussing their differences and are willing to pour out their own understanding, a catalyst of knowledge is born. This is bigger than the knowledge of each individual possess in their mind. You are given an opportunity to mine this gold.
Glass Half-Empty or Half-Full
The empty part of the glass bares an opportunity to be filled while the part of the with substance faces an opportunity to grow. Whichever side you have chosen just know that there is an opportunity within you – a gap that needs to be filled and growth that needs to happen not to you but for you to be a better individual.
You are the Half – Look at yourself properly.
